Vulnerable children in Ekiti State are to be given special attention to reduce the risk of getting engaged in criminal activities.
The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi stated this in Ado Ekiti at a meeting with a delegation from the presidency on an intervention tagged “At Risk Children Programme “
She identified the categories of vulnerable children to include; those out of school, orphans, homeless, migrants in farm steads and those with special needs.
Erelu fayemi however expressed the readiness of the state government to empower the children, provide quality education as well as engaged them in skill acquisition in line with values orientation which remained one of the five pillars of the present administration.
Responding, the leader of the team tagged “At Risk Children Programme” Hajia Mariam Uwaise said the delegation was in the state to monitor the existing similar programmes saying many of the vulnerable children have good potentials yet to be exploited.
Hajia Uwaise who is also the special Adviser to president on social Investment maintained that government relied on collaborative efforts of stakeholders to bring up children in right manners.
Stakeholders at the meeting which included onimesi of imesi Ekiti Oba olatunji olatunde, representatives of faith based organization and voluntary organization called on government to get statistical data of the affected children in order to give them required assistance.
