State Governors have been charged to take advantage of portions of the Constitution that gave power to share responsibility with the Federal Government regarding economy and security.
Guest Speaker at the 24th Convocation Lecture of the Ekiti State University, EKSU Ado Ekiti Mr Femi Falana, SAN made the call while delivering a lecture titled “Restructuring and the struggle for the liberation of Nigeria”.
Mr Falana explained that the failure of states Governors to act base on the provisions of the constitution that gave them equal power with the President on issues of national interest were responsible for many of the challenges bedeviling the country.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria noted that restructuring to work in Nigeria, leadership should be based on merit and patriotism.
In his remark, the Chancellor of EKSU and former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi pointed out that Nigerians have allowed bad narratives concerning other ethnics and religions to cause disunity and enmity in the country.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun and Chairman on the occasion who is the Bishop Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Most Reverend Felix Ajakaiye said the topic discussed was coming at the right time Nigeria was in dire need of solutions to economic and security challenges.
