NUJ, NBA, NSCDC synergise on protection of Human Rights

The Nigeria Bar Association NBA, Ikere Ekiti Branch; Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State council and NSCDC, Ekiti State Command have synergized to ensure that every Nigerian rights are protected and guarantee.

The partnership was sealed when the leadership of NBA, Ikere Ekiti and that of the NUJ paid a courtesy visit to the office of the commandant of Ekiti State NSCDC, Mr Seun Sosina

Vice chairman, NBA Ikere Ekiti and Chairman Human Rights Committee, Barrister Iyanu Olumuagun promised to work with security agents to ensure that the rights of citizens were well respected in-line with the constitution of the country, appealing to security agencies to always give suspects fair hearing while obtaining statement from them.

On his own, the Chairman of NUJ, Ekiti State Council, Mr Kayode Babatuyi restated the commitment of Journalists in the state to do everything possible to protect citizens’ rights irrespective of their status or background

Responding, the Commandant of Ekiti NSCDC, Dr OluwaSeun Sosina said security outfits need the support of different associations like NUJ and NBA to protect the rights of citizens including their life and property

Dr Sosina who pledged that the command would not violate fundamental rights of citizens, urged residents of the state to be law abiding.

He cautioned them against any act of violence that can distrupt the existing peace in the State and warned that anybody caught perpetrating evil would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

In separate interviews, some of the suspects in the custody of the NSCDC confirmed that their rights were not violated by the officers.
