Cannabis Importation; Court jails five women

A Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced five women to two years in prison each for illegally importing about seven kilograms of cannabis.

The convicted women are Basirat  Olaribigbe, Fatima Garuba, Amudalat Adekunle, Arafat Awele and Ademola Bola.

Delivering his judgement, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke convicted and sentenced them after they all pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy and unlawful importation charges brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, against them.

After confirming their first-time status, Justice Aneke however gave them an option of 500,000 naira fine and 100 hours of community service in lieu of imprisonment.
