Cancer: Ekiti Governor’s wife advocates awareness on regular breast scan.

The Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, has expressed concern over poor patronage and awareness of mammogram machine meant for cancer examination as well as prevention, at Ekiti State Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti.

She stated this at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti during an
awareness programme in commemoration of the 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness entitled: “No one should face breast cancer alone”

She therefore called for aggressive awareness in the state, for every woman to be captured in breast scan and examination which has been subsided by the state government for all, no matter the class, range or status.

The First Lady called on all Religious Leaders, Market Women and political office holders to spread the message about breast test awareness.

According to her, 150 women ranging from age 40 and above would benefit from free mammogram examination while another set of 50 women ranging from age 40 years downward would benefit from breast scan.

She advised women to make early breast cancer screening a top priority, announcing that 200 women would be sponsored for mammogram and breast test.

The Governor’s Wife commended the state government for upgrading the health sector and providing the Mammogram machine at Adunni Olayinka Women Diagnostic and Wellness Centre.

Also, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Mrs Foluso Gbenga-Ikotun and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Peju Babafemi urged women to take advantage of the mammogram machine for early detection and prevention.

Earlier, a resource person from the General Surgery Department ,Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Dr Julius Olaogun encouraged healthy habits such as balanced diet, regular exercise, abstaining from smoking and excessive alcohol consumption which could significantly reduce cancer risk.

Two breast cancer survivors, Mrs Oluwafunmilayo Bello and Mrs Titilayo Oluwadare who narrated how early detection saved their lives, called on women to prioritize their health by ensuring that they visit health facilities for examination and diagnosis regularly.
