The All Progressives Congress APC has won all the Chairmanship and Councillorship seats in the Local Government Elections held in Kwara State on Saturday, the 21st September, 2024.
Addressing a news conference on Sunday, the 22nd September, Chairman, Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Okanla said the Electoral and Returning Officers had all filed their reports.
Alhaji Baba-Okanla subsequently declared all the APC candidates as winners for all the 16 Chairmanship as well as One hundred and ninety-three Councillorship seats.
He commended all the stakeholders including political parties, law enforcement agencies, the electorate and the media, for their commitment to peaceful conduct of the election.
Five Political Parties participated in the Kwara Local Council Poll, which took place for the first time in seven years.
The Political Parties that participated are Accord Party, APC, APM, PDP and SDP.
Meanwhile, protest broke out in the morning of Sunday, the 22nd September, 2024 in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, following the declaration of results of the Local Council Elections.
The protesters who were in large numbers, converged in front of the headquarters of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, carrying placards with various inscriptions such as, “Our votes must count”, “We no go gree”, Kwara people have spoke”, “Enough is enough”, among others.
The protesters alleged that the results of the Council Elections were grossly manipulated in favour of the APC.
Some Electoral Officers who arrived the KWASIEC headquarters while the protest was going on, had their materials confiscated by the angry protesters.
However, security personnel were on standby to maintain law and order.
