President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Habu Gumel, has expressed optimism on the performance of the 76 Nigerian Athletes set to participate in 11 events at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Speaking on Saturday, 29th June 2024 during the Olympic Day Celebration in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, Gumel said he is confident that Nigeria’s contingent will make the country proud.
He explained that this is the first Olympic Games with full gender parity, which aligns with the NOC’s agenda.
Gumel further reassured sports enthusiasts that the athletes would inspire the nation and admirers worldwide.
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, who also spoke at the event, said his administration would continue to support young athletes, improve sports infrastructure and encourage active lifestyles to build a stronger and healthier community.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Joseph Joshua, encouraged the Nigerian contingent to the Olympics to remain focused and determined.
