EKSG set to commence free Surgical Intervention for Residents

As part of concerted efforts to improve healthcare accessibility for the people of Ekiti State, the State Government is set to commence a comprehensive Free Surgical Mission aimed at providing essential surgical care to residents of the state.

A statement from the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti said the Free Surgical Mission will be conducted across various healthcare facilities in the state and is expected to cater for a wide range of surgical needs, including Caesarian Section, Hernia repairs, Appendectomies, Cataract surgeries, Lump removals, Fibroid Removal, Hydrocele (IPA) as well as some other minor and major surgical procedures

He stated that the initiative is designed to ensure that all residents, particularly those who are underserved and financially disadvantaged are provided with access to necessary surgical interventions without the burden of cost.

According to the Commissioner, the Key Objectives of the Free Surgical Mission include: enhancing Healthcare Access, Providing free surgical services to residents who might otherwise be unable to afford such care as well as providing improved Health Outcomes and addressing surgical conditions that can significantly impact quality of life and overall health.

He added that other objectives of the programme include, reducing healthcare Disparities and ensuring equitable healthcare delivery across all socioeconomic groups within Ekiti State.

While stressing that enrollment of patients needing surgical intervention is currently ongoing at primary health care facilities in all wards across the state, the Commissioner said patients will however need to provide their NIN and a passport photograph during enrollment for the programme

He explained that the surgeries will be performed at selected hospitals equipped with the necessary facilities and personnel to ensure safe and effective outcomes while
Post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will be provided to ensure full recovery and promptly address any complications that might arise .

While commending Governor Biodun Oyebanji for approving the free-surgical mission, Filani stressed that the Governor’s gesture underscores his administration’s dedication to fostering a healthier and more resilient Ekiti State by building a more robust healthcare system through elimination of financial barriers to essential surgical care
