Christians mark Palm Sunday in Ado Ekiti

Christians in Nigeria today joined others across the world to celebrate Palm Sunday.

In Christendom, Palm Sunday marks the first day of the Holy Week and the Sunday before Easter which commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

In Ado Ekiti, many Christians dressed in good attires, worshipped in various churches and used the day to celebrate the goodness of God to mankind with various worship and praise songs, as well as prayers for forgiveness of their sins.

Also, there were processions around streets of the state capital with palm leaves.

In the meantime, religious leaders have been advised to desist from preaching what would not give glory to the name of God or contribute to the development of humanity and society.

The Cleric in-charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Palace of Peace Parish, Olorunsogo Ado-Ekiti, Pastor Kolade Osundun who gave the advice during a sermon in the Church noted that preaching devisive messages could cause crisis and disunity among the people.

In a preaching titled, “Dont sleep after sowing”, Pastor Osundun expressed worry on how some religious leaders mislead their members through diluted messages, saying such would not give room to spiritual growth and society development.

The Cleric noted that pastors should be agents of meaningful change and social development, saying if pastors failed in their responsibilities, there would be decadence and crisis in the society.

Pastor Osundun also used the forum to appeal to those at the helms of affairs in Nigeria to rule based on God’s direction, noting that without that it would be difficult to overcome the current challenges facing the country.
