The Lagos Food Markets, selling food items at 25 percent discount, have opened across the five divisions in the state.
The initiative, aptly tagged, “Ounje Eko”, offers food items to Lagosians at reduced prices.
Reports say Lagos residents trooped out in large numbers to purchase different items including rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, pepper and other consumables at a discount of 25%.
In February 2024, the Lagos State Government announced series of intervention programmes to reduce the hardship being faced by the people, in view of the prevailing economic situation.
One of such intervention Programmes was the setting up of Ounje Eko Market where food items would be sold at cheap prices.
Some of the buyers who spoke to newsmen at the markets, called on all stakeholders to play their roles in ensuring the success of the initiative.
They also called on State Governors across the country to emulate the idea, which would go a long way to reduce the impact of the poor economy on the people.
