Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has said initial investigations into the explosions which rocked Ibadan the state capital on the night of Tuesday, 16th January, 2024, were traced to explosives kept by illegal miners.
Governor of Makinde, who visited the scene of the blasts on Tuesday night, said illegal miners living in some buildings in Bodija area of the capital, were responsible for the incident.
He said investigation was still on going and all those found culpable would be brought to book.
The Governor also revealed that the state government would pay medical bills of injured victims while those whose houses were affected, would be assisted to rebuild them.
Governor Makinde urged the people to go about their businesses, remain calm and cooperate with both security and medical workers handling the incident.
At least ten bodies were reportedly taken away from the scene of the blasts while over 100 persons were also reportedly injured and being treated in hospitals with some of them already discharged.
The blasts affected a section of the Governor’s office, the Secretariat, Oyo State House of Assembly, residence of late Chief Bola Ige and many buildings at Ologuneru, Apetu, New Garage, Basorun, Akobo, Sango and Eleyele.
