Host Cote D’Ivoire beat Guinea-Bissau 2-nil in the opening match of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations, which began on Saturday, 13th January, 2024.
Seko Fofana in the 6th minute and Jean-Phillippe Krasso in the 58th minute, got both goals for the host.
It was an expected result for the Ivoriens who are bidding to win the competition for the third time after successes in 1992 and 2015.
Earlier, Ivorien President, Alassane Ouattara; FIFA President, Gianni Infantino and CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, all delivered speeches to herald the 34th AFCON.
Three matches are billed for Sunday, the 14th of January.
Nigeria will take on Equatorial-Guinea in group A while in group B, Egypt will face Mozambique and Ghana will confront Cape Verde.
