Labour Union Gives Kwara Government Ultimatum Over Demands.

The Kwara State Government has been given a 14-day ultimatum to honour various agreements with Labour Unions in the state or face industrial action.

Addressing a news conference in Ilorin, the state capital, Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress, Kwara State, Mr Muritala Olayinka said the bodies had written series of letters to the state Governor on the issues without response.

Mr Olayinka explained that one of their demands is that government should start payment of wage award to workers, rather than the Palliative currently being paid.

He noted that Government even failed to pay November 2023 Palliative but paid that of December, wondering why the November palliative was withheld.

The Labour Leader lamented that the government has failed to offer explanation or respond to Labour’s demand for a meeting, adding that workers are facing lots of difficulties due to increase in prices of goods and services, occasioned by removal of fuel subsidy

The ultimatum, which began on Tuesday, 9th January, 2024, will lapse on Monday, 22nd January.

Other Labour Leaders including Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Saliu Suleiman and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, Tunde Meshach, also attended the news conference.
