The test-run being conducted at the Port Harcourt Refinery will be completed by the end of January, 2024.
In a statement, Spokeperson of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Femi Soneye said the test-run, which was a major step towards resuming operation five years after the plant was shut, would end by January ending.
The Mechanical Rehabilitation Work of the facility was completed in December 2023 and it would now begin refining 60,000 barrels of crude oil daily.
It is expected that once actual production of refined products commences, coupled with the Dangote Refinery, the facility is expected to ease the pressure on the country’s foreign exchange and fuel supply.
However, close sources in the oil sector indicate that when both refineries begin full operation, it may not necessarily lead to crash in price of petroleum products.
