President Bola Tinubu has met with critical stakeholders in the political crisis rocking Rivers State and they have agreed to resolve the conflict.
Those present at the meeting held in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja were Governor Siminalayi Fubara, former Governor Peter Odili, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, PDP Chairman in Rivers State, his APC counterpart, among others.
Here are highlight of the resolutions signed at the end of the meeting.
- President Tinubu directed that all the cases instituted in Courts by Gov Fubara and his team be withdrawn immediately.
- All impeachment proceedings against the Governor by the State House of Assembly should be dropped immediately.
- The leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule remained recognized alongside the 27 members who defected from PDP.
- Remuneration and benefits of all members of the House must be re-instated immediately while Governor Fubara must not interfere with the full funding of the House.
*Members of the House are to decide where they will sit to conduct the legislative business without interference or hindrance from the Executive.
- Governor Fubara, who had earlier presented the 2024 budget to a 4-man House, shall re-present the budget to a properly constituted House.
*All the names of Commissioners who resigned due to the crisis, must be re-submitted to the House of Assembly for approval.
*There should be no Caretaker Committee in the Local Council areas in Rivers State.
The resolution was signed by Gov Fubara; FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike; Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; PDP Chairman in Rivers State, Aaron Chukwuemeka: APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, among others.
However, it is not immediately known, the position of the constitution on one of the resolutions, which declared Martin Amaewhule as the recognized Speaker of the house, given that a High Court in Port Harcourt had last week declared factional leader, Edison Ehie as the authentic leader.
