Sports Officers across the sixteen local government areas of Ekiti State are now undergoing a three-day training in the game of Badminton in Ado Ekiti.
Chairman of the State Sports Council, organisers of the training programme, Dr Isaac Ayodele told sportswriters at the Police Officers Mess, venue of the event that the Sports Officers are expected to train up-coming badminton players in their respective domain.
Dr Ayodele said the Sports Officers would be trained later in the rudiment of other sports like Athletics, Basketball and Tennis, with a view to transferring the knowledge to younger athletes across their local council areas.
He reiterated the resolve of the present administration to use youth participation in sports to enhance human capital development.
A member of the board of the state sports council, Hon Samuel Dada noted that such training would assist to produce more coaches who would then bring up young athletes.
One of the Sports Officers, Mr Gboyega Afolabi from Gbonyin Local government, noted that Sports now serve as opportunity for youths to stay away from crime while many of them have become international stars in their chosen sports.
On the opening day, several demonstration games were played by the state Badminton players who were co-ordinated by the State Coach, Olayinka Akinyemi.
The training programme will end on Friday.
