The people of Omuo Ekiti on Saturday July 1 took to the streets to protest against the alleged relocation of Federal College of Education earlier proposed to be sited in Omuo Ekiti to Ilawe Ekiti.
The people took to the street carrying various postal, blocking all major roads that led to the town calling on the Federal Government to reverse its decision to relocate the school to Ilawe Ekiti.
The spokesperson for the protesters, Hon. Segun Akanle said that Omuo was invited to the 8th and 9th Senate to defend the Bill on public hearing committee of the House which the community defended the Bill successful.
He therefore called on the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu to intervene on the purported relocation of the College of Education.
Speaking with newsmen, the Olomuo of Omuo Ekiti, Oba Noah Omonighehin said he led his chiefs to the 8th and 9th National Assembly for the Public hearing of the Bill which was later passed and waiting for assent of the President.
The monarch said he now wonder why the location of the Institution should be changed to Ilawe overnight as the people of Ilawe can not reap where they did not sow as the people of Ilawe did not make any request for Federal College of Education.
Oba Omonigbehin therefore appealed to the Governor of Ekiti State , Mr Biodun Oyebanji and the President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to intervene and call all those behind the purported relocation to desist as the school belong to Omuo Ekiti.
In his remarks, the Elekota of Kota Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Fagbemi who is also from the Ekiti East Local Government called on the Federal Government to reverse the decision to site the school in Ilawe saying that Ilawe recently had Federal Law School and wondered why another Federal Institution should be sited again at the same community to the detriment of Omuo Ekiti.
He said all the communities that made up Ekiti East Local Government are in support of the location of the Federal College of Education in Omuo Ekiti.
Others who spoke at the event included the Vice president of Omuo Development Union, Mr Oloruntoba Emmanuel and the Youth Leader, Aderobaki Raymond described the alleged relocation as plan to deprived Omuo of the Federal College of Education they have laboured for.
The protesters promised to continue with the demonstration until the needful is done.
