Kids & Teens Resource Centre in collaboration with Women Advocates, Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) funded by FORD Foundation commemorated this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence with a rally campaign along the streets and the market place in Bamikemo community in Ile-Oluji Okeigbo LGA.
The campaign was to raise awareness on the need to End Violence Against Women and Girls.
The Olori of Bamikemo community, Mrs Abiola Kehinde, the lyalojas of Bamikemo and Ologundudu, Community Response Team (CRT) on Gender Based Violence encouraged women to speak up in the face of any form of abuse, condemned the act of using the Girl Child to hawk in the market and streets, saying such acts make them vulnerable to rape and other dangers
She also condemned the act of Female Genital Mutilation, Child & Women Labour and Trafficking saying such Girls taken abroad in some instances were used for sex slavery.
She urged everyone in the market to report any of these abuse cases in their neighborhood to the traditional institutions and CRT who are ready to take prompt actions against perpetrators of GBV.
After the rally, Women converged at the Palace of Akemo of Bamikemo where the Royal Father of Bamikemo community,oba Isaac Abiola Gboke encouraged them to speak out on any form of abuse in their neighbourhood not minding the status or person involved.
He appreciated FORD Foundation and Women Advocates, Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) or considering his community to be part of those that commemorated the 2022 16 Days of Activism because it has provided the platform for everyone in the community to be aware of the fact that His Community now has zero tolerance to all forms of Gender Based Violence.
